Jacksonville, Fl. - The Central Arkansas Women's Soccer Team defeated Jacksonville in their first ever ASUN Conference match. The Bears scored the game winner in extra-time to seal the win in Florida.
FIRST HALF - SUN SHINING DOWN ON THE ASUN OPENER
In the Bears first ever ASUN match, the side pushed for an early goal, but were unable to test the goalkeeper with shots from
Gracie Hair and
Morgan Rollow getting opportunities. It was not until the 33rd minute when
Amanda Walsh put the first shot on goal. Walsh's strike fell just short and right into the palms of the goalkeeper.
Central Arkansas did not allow a single shot through the first 45 minutes of play.
SECOND HALF - OPPORTUNITIES QUICK AND FAST
Central Arkansas opened up the second half much quicker with
Hadley Dickinson getting a shot on goal 38 seconds in. With
Morgan Rollow and
Gracie Hair following suit just minutes later.
Emma Hawkins took multiple chances, but was unable to find the back of the net as well.
Kelly Van Gundy continued to push higher up the pitch in search of a late equalizer and nearly found it, but was called for a foul just before her shot threatened the goal.
EXTRA TIME - STRIKING HOME FOR THE WIN
The first period of extra time only saw one chance all match, when
Amanda Walsh struck the woodwork in the 99th minute. But it was
Emma Hawkins who stole the show in the 102nd minute with an off-balanced shot from distance that skipped past the goalkeeper and went right under her.Â
The Bears held Jacksonville to two shots and zero shots on target.
Central Arkansas stays in Florida for their second ASUN Conference match against North Florida. Kickoff is set for Noon CT on Sunday, September 26.
