HOUSTON, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears pounded out 15 hits and overcame an early 5-0 deficit to down the Houston Baptist Huskies 8-6 in the second game of Friday's doubleheader at Husky Field.
UCA struck out 15 times and had just three hits in dropping the series opener 7-1 as HBU's Jacob Coats tossed a complete game.
On the day, UCA totaled 11 errors but somehow managed the split. The Bears, down 5-0 after just two innings in the nightcap, outscored the Huskies 8-1 the rest of the way and won despite a season-high six errors. UCA got hits from eight different players, including three apiece from sophomore outfielder
Kolby Johnson and junior second baseman, along with two runs batted for each. Senior shortstop
Christian Brasher finished 2 for 4 with two RBI.

Tyler Cleveland went the final two innings to earn his ninth save.Â
UCA (20-25, 15-19)Â tied the game with three runs in the fifth inning, then took the lead for good with two more in the seventh. Cleveland worked around a leadoff single in the eighth, with help from catcher Conner Flagg throwing out a baserunner, then pitched a perfect ninth.
In the opener, UCA had five errors and just three hits as the Huskies (11-35, 8-24) scored seven runs but only two of which were earned. Coats allowed one earned run and threw a career-high 146 pitches in his second complete game of the season. Coats struck out every UCA starter at least once. UCA used five pitchers who combined for 11 strikeouts in a game that took just 2:39.
Dillan Janak struck out five in 1 2/3 innings or relief as UCA's final pitcher.
The series will conclude with another 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
