Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Trent Eskola

MISTAKES LEAD TO BEARS LOSS IN CORPUS CHRISTI

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Central Arkansas Women's Soccer Team lost 4-1 on Sunday, March 7 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Bears put more shots on goal than the Islanders but were unable to finish the chances.

FIRST HALF - CHANCE AFTER CHANCE, BUT NO PROFIT

The Bears started the first half very strongly. UCA put three shots on target within the first 15 minutes, including chances by Gracie Hair and Emma Hawkins, but both had their chances parried away by the goalkeeper. The Bears gave the ball away too easily in the 20th minute and the Islanders would capitalize, making it 1-0.

The Bears continued to create chances but were unable to find a goal as the half finished 1-0.

SECOND HALF - UNLUCKY DEFENDING AND MISSED CHANCES

The second half started with the Islanders on the front foot and scored their second goal in the 50th minute. The Bears fought to get a goal back but were denied when Zoe Van de Cloot fired a shot towards goal which was saved. Corpus Christi scored their third on a counter-attack in the 70th minute and their fourth in the 76th minute.

Sydney Brough got one back for the Bears and denied a clean sheet for the Islanders when she chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.

A bad day went to even worse when Gracie Hair was shown a red card for being on the wrong side of a call in the 86th minute.

HEAR FROM THE COACH

"It was a frustrating match today. For 60 minutes or so we had most of the scoring chances, but found ourselves behind in the match. Soccer goes that way sometimes. We just have to pick ourselves up and move forward, lots of soccer left this season. I know our team is ready for our best performances to come," said Coach Jeremy Bishop.

The Bears host Sam Houston on Friday, March 12 at the Bill Stephens Complex. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
