CONWAY, Ark. - The University of Central Arkansas volleyball program looks to extend their winning streak to five as they head to Houston.
The Sugar Bears will face another road test as they battle Houston Baptist's defensive-minded team tomorrow afternoon.
UCA has turned a table recently as they pushed themselves to a four-match win streak in this second leg of the conference season. In their last four matches, the Sugar Bears are playing lights out as they outscored their opponents 12-2 while posting a .239 hitting percentage against their opponents .112 hitting percentage.
Defense has been the name of the game and with that is the defensive leader, senior Libro
Emily Doss. During this four-match stint, Doss has contributed 70 digs and has only produced three defensive errors. Another key component to this recent stretch is the power in the middle. UCA has had multiple players get into the blocking epidemic as senior
Amari Mitchell (4), senior
Amanda Beaton (3), junior
Ravin Rhodes (9), freshman
Charlie Tidwell (11) and freshman
Macy Blackburn (9) have all been part of this trend.
The Sugar Bears search to continue this trend of defensive success as Houston Baptist currently ranks ninth in the Southland for hitting percentage. However, the Huskies more than make up for it in the front as they are second in blocks per set with 2.27. Adding to their defensive effort, Houston Baptist is also third in digs per set with 16.64. Leading their defensive charge is Ebonie Ballesteros, as she is No. 1 in blocks per set with 1.27.
This defensive showcase will be a sight to see as the first serve is set for noon tomorrow at Sharp Gym in Houston.
