FLORENCE, Ala. – The Central Arkansas beach volleyball team returned to the courts on Saturday for the final day of the Shoals Beach Bash. The Beach Bears finished the day 2-0 and improved to 5-0 on the season.

The tandem of
Aly Brinkley and
Colene Hamilton had a fairly easy first match of the day as they defeated Amy Tyma and Audrey Horsley 21-12 and 21-16, in the No. 1 position. In the No. 2 matchup,
Evelyn Griffith and
Faith Hasness picked up a 21-9 and 21-10 two-set victory over Jessica Brunk and Cadie Shirley.
Shannon Stone and
Makenna Schmitt faced some adversity as they dropped the first set against Morgan Ilsley and Lauren Hinton, 21-17. Stone and Schmitt were resilient as they would take the next two sets 21-15 and 15-8 to win their matchup in three sets.
Bria Garmon and
Julia Oravec claimed a victory in the No. 4 matchup as they won both sets 21-11 against Jordan Hollis and Josie Hester. In the No. 5 pairing,
Kayla Cook and
Kelsie Sager held Bea Lindquist and Caroline Foote to only five points in the first set, as they won 21-5. The second set was a little more competitive as Cook and Sager won 21-15 and won the matchup.
Mary Galloway and
Marissa Gilmore defeated Ashanti Thomas and ZaKira Landrum 21-9 and 21-8 in an exhibition match.
Central Arkansas 3, North Alabama 2
With the overall match tied at 2-2, it all came down to what happened in the No. 1 matchup. Brinkley and Hamilton were able to avenge Friday's loss with a three-set victory over Maya Dickson and Taylor Seney. Brinkley and Hamilton dropped the first set, 21-19, but were unfazed and won the next two sets 21-18 and 15-13, to win the matchup. Their victory secured the team win for UCA, 3-2.
Schmitt and Stone needed three sets to knock off Lauren Quigley and Jelena Girod in the No. 3 position, 21-12, 16-21, and 15-9. Cook and Sager needed just two sets to defeat Samantha Shafer and Allison Temple, at the No. 5 position, by the tally of 21-16 in both sets.
Mackenzie and Catie Ladner defeated Garmon and Oravec in the No. 4 matchup in three sets, 17-21, 21-18, and 15-11. Paula Klemperer and Natalie Kordt won in straight sets against Griffith and Hasness, 24-22 and 21-14, at the No. 2 spot. These were the two matchups that North Alabama won.
Galloway and Gilmore added another exhibition win as they defeated Caroline Conkle and Mackenzie Blackwood 21-6 and 21-14.
The Beach Bears return to the sand on Friday, March 5, for the TCU Horned Frog Challenge. UCA opens the tournament with a match against Southern Miss at 10:10 a.m.
