GIBSON SCORES TWO AS BEARS FIGHT OFF LADY LIONS

CONWAY, Ark. - The Central Arkansas Women's Soccer Team hosted Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, Feb. 26. The Bears battled it out with the Lady Lions, and controlled the match on their way to a comfortable 3-0 victory.

FIRST HALF - MISTY RAIN AND EARNING EVERYTHING

Both sides were unable to grab hold of the match early on, but the Bears were sprung into action when Reagan McCombs made a huge save in the 11th minute. The Bears used the most of their substitutions in the first half when Alyssa Aultman came on in the 32nd minute along with Emily Wissel-Littmann. Aultman made an immediate impact and provided a wonderful ball to Abby Gibson who fired home the first goal of the match in the 35th minute.

Late in the first half, McCombs gave up a penalty kick in the final minute of the first half, but kept the Bears ahead by making a crucial save to keep it 1-0 going into the break.

SECOND HALF - CHAOS AND GOALS

The second half started the same way as the first half, as the Bears would be the first to put a shot on goal in the 53rd minute by Hadley Dickinson. Gibson made a great solo effort and found the back of the net for her second goal of the day.

But it was what happened just 34 seconds later that turned the tide of the match, when Sydney Brough was shown a red card in the 56th minute. The Bears wouldn't let that slow them down as Zoe Van de Cloot made it three for the Bears off an assist by Gracie Hair in the 58th minute.

The Bears, playing down a player, held off multiple chances by SLE to keep a clean sheet.

HEAR FROM THE COACH

"It was a great team effort tonight. We played with intensity and focus, and played really well. We even had to play much of the second half down a player, but our team adjusted and overcame the adversity. It's going to be a really fun season if we can continue to perform like we did tonight," said Coach Jeremy Bishop on the team after the 3-0 result.

The Bears host Nicholls on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Bill Stephens Complex. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
