BEARS UNABLE TO BREAK THROUGH IN NASHVILLE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Central Arkansas Bears traveled to Nashville for a battle against the Bruins of Belmont. The two teams went 110 minutes to decide the match, with no team taking advantage, the match ended 0-0.

Coach Ross Duncan used a strong lineup to control possession against the counter-attack that Belmont possesses.

FIRST HALF - MUSIC CITY AND FINE TOUCHES

Belmont started quick out of the gate putting a shot on frame in the second minute, but Zach Schawl put his glove in the way to save it and keep the Bruins out early on! The match would go quiet for the next couple of minutes before the Bears got two quick chances both by Ole Kjoerholt, who just put one over the bar and had his second opportunity saved.

The Bears would pressure the Bruins constantly and controlled much of the possession in the first half. Christian Chavez had a strong chance but put his shot just wide of the post in the 40th minute.

Ilya Busaev took two chances late in the first half, but missed both just wide of the goal.

SECOND HALF - BUILDING A MATCH ON ROCK 'N ROLL

The second half started with the Bears creating the first chances when Alexsi Morel and Edoardo Calzola both took on chances, but could not find the back of the net. Christian Chavez and Rubyn Singh Gill both threatened the goal, but had their shots denied by the Bruin goalkeeper.

The Bears won three corners during the second half compared to Belmont's single corner. The teams remained level after the 90 minutes and went into a golden goal, extra time to decide the fate of the match.

EXTRA TIME - TIRED LEGS AND DEEP BREATHS

Chances were slim for both sides, as each team began growing more and more tired as time went on. Ole Kjoerholt had a good chance to win the match in the 92ns minute, but had his shot saved. Edoardo Merci had the final word in the tightly contested matchup, putting a strong shot on goal with less than a minute remaining. The shot was saved and parried away by Belmont to see out the full time.

HEAR FROM THE COACH

"Tonight was a really competitive game. Belmont created some great chances and Zach had to come up big for us. And on our attacking end we created more than enough situations to score. Our execution on set pieces was poor and the chances we created through the run of play were left short of the mark. With the amount of opportunities we had, we should be walking away with a win. But to be fair, we were also fortunate not to get scored on ourselves," said Coach Ross Duncan after the 0-0 draw.

HEAR FROM THE PLAYERS

"It all comes down to discipline from all out boys. Our philosophy is to attack as much as possible, but the hard part is getting back to defend. It's asking a lot from our guys to sprint 40 or 50 yards up and back across the field for 110 minutes, so credit to them for preventing majority of Belmont's attacks and giving us our first clean sheet of the Spring season," goalkeeper, Zach Schawl said after the match.

The Bears return to Conway for a matchup against Central Methodist next Friday, March 5th set for a 5 PM kickoff.
