KAYOULOUD, BEARS DOWN WARRIORS

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears improved to 2-0 on the new Scottie Pippen Court on Monday, cruising to a 90-56 victory over the cross-town Hendrix Warriors.

UCA (2-9) had five players in double figures, led by junior forward Eddy Kayouloud with 20 points and freshmen Ibbe Klintman and Camren Hunter with 15 points each. The Bears shot 53 percent from the field and made eight three-pointers and added a season-high 16 steals.

"It's a challenge this time of year for everybody who is still playing,' said UCA head coach Anthony Boone, "knowing that a (holiday) break is about to happen. Everyone is thinking about going home. But our guys came out and did a great job. We have pretty good leadership and they wanted to come out and play well and get a good taste in their mouths before going home for Christmas.'

Kayouloud, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward from Paris, France, filled up his boxscore with a season-high 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals and shot 8 of 11 from the field and 3 of 3 from the free-throw line.

"Eddy has been very consistent this season, throughout practice, throughout preseason and throughout the non-conference season we've played so far,' Boone said. "I've been very pleased with him. He's always come out with a great attitude and works as hard as he can.'

The Bears used a 17-4 run midway through the first half to pull away from the Division III Warriors, who count the game as an exhibition. Kayouloud scored the first five points of the burst and junior transfer Darious Hall finished it off as UCA jumped from a 20-12 lead to a 37-16 margin with 4:50 remaining in the half. The Warriors (6-3) went more than four minutes without scoring.

UCA's lead reached as much as 36 points with eight minutes to play in the second half as the Bears subbed as much as they could playing without six players due to injuries and illness. UCA had season highs in points, field goal percentage, assists (20) and steals (16).

Klintman, in just his second start of the season, had his best game to date with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals, all career highs for the 6-8 freshman from Queensland, Australia. Hunter, a 6-3 freshman point guard from Bryant, Ark., scored 15 points and added 3 assists and 3 steals.

Sophomore Masai Olowokere, in just his second game of the season, had 12 points and 6 rebounds and made a pair of three-pointers. UCA had five different players make a three-pointer as the Bears went 8 of 26 from beyond the arc. Hall added 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals for the Bears.

UCA's defense held the Warriors' leading scorer Seth Stanley to just four points on 1 of 10 shooting. He entered the game averaging 19.4 points per game.

UCA will take a nine-day holiday break before returning with a road game at Texas A&M on Wednesday, Dec. 29 in College Station, Texas.
