SUGAR BEARS SEND SELLS OUT WITH SENIOR DAY WIN

CONWAY — Three years ago, Taylor Sells ended her freshman season at Central Arkansas with a Southland Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday, in her final collegiate game with no postseason play at stake, Sells had just one thing to play for – one more win.

And she got it.

The Sugar Bears' lone senior, Sells walked off the Farris Center floor for the final time victorious as the Sugar Bears defeated Northwestern State 80-62 to finish the season with back-to-back wins on their home floor.

After defeating Southeastern Louisiana 54-47 on Wednesday, the Sugar Bears (13-16, 9-11 Southland) completed the sweep of the regular season's final week to finish tied with the Lady Lions for 8th in the Southland Conference standings, but were denied a trip to their 10th consecutive league tournament as Southeastern owned the tiebreaker for the final berth in next week's tournament in Katy, Texas.

In the season-ending and career-closing victory, Sells went out in style – scoring 13 points and tying a career high with 11 rebounds (including 10 in the first half) for her second career double-double to lead the Sugar Bears to a season sweep of the Lady Demons (7-22, 4-16). Sells also led the Sugar Bears with 4 assists to push her career total to 300, the 3rd-most in the program's Division I era.

The Sugar Bears built a 43-25 halftime lead and kept NSU from ever threatening as the Lady Demons were unable to draw any closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Briana Trigg led the Sugar Bears offensively with 23 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field and a 7-for-9 performance at the free throw line, while also pulling in 9 rebounds. Romola Dominguez added a season-high 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting from 3-point range, becoming the first Sugar Bear to hit at least six 3s in a game since Antonija Bozic in 2017. Hannah Langhi added 9 points and 8 rebounds, while Ayanna Trigg had 7 points and 4 rebounds.

For the game, the Sugar Bears shot 49.1 percent from the field – tying for their second-best performance of the 20-game conference season – and kept NSU to 39.7 percent, including just 22.2 percent (2 of 9) from 3-point range. The Sugar Bears, who came in ranked 348th in the nation in 3-pointers made and 3-point percentage, had their best outing of the season from beyond the arc, going 9-for-18. The Sugar Bears outrebounded the Lady Demons 42-30, winning the rebound battle for the 21st time this season.

By winning the last two games, the Sugar Bears go out having won 4 of their last 6 on their home floor, and with Saturday's victory improve to 18-13 all-time against NSU including a 10-5 mark in the Farris Center. With 9 Southland Conference wins this season, the Sugar Bears improve by 50 percent over last year's total of 6, and with their 13 wins this season now have 104 over the last 5 years – an average of 20.8 per season.

Sells concludes her four-year career having played in 114 games with 88 starts, winning 76 games and totaling 691 points, 437 rebounds, 300 assists and 113 steals in 3213 minutes, finishing 3rd in Central Arkansas' Division I history in assists; 5th in minutes played; 6th in starts and 8th in games played, scoring in double figures 32 times and recording a pair of double-doubles, and is on track to graduate in May.
