Huntsville, TX - It was a roller coaster night for central arkansas women's soccer team as they saw 2-0 advantage for the majority of the match, end in a 3-2 defeat on a dramatic turn of events.
First half
- The Bears got off to a flying start, creating a scoring opportunity in the opening moments of the match. Freshman Emma Hawkins, forced a save from the SHSU goalkeeper in the second minute on a hard hit strike down the middle.
- Taylor Webb would strike for the Bears in the 14th minute after bulleting home a header from an Anika Sultan corner kick.
- UCA keeper Reagan McCombs was called into action for the first time in the 27th minute, diving down quickly to her right side to make the save and deny the Bearkats an equalizer.
- Jordan Slim forced another save from the SHSU keeper in the 34th and 38th minute of the match on hard hit strikes that were down the middle.
- The first half would conclude with a McCombs double save in the 41st minute, again denying the Bearkats an equalizer on strikes that were headed into the top right corner.
Second Half
- The Bears continued to create chances in the second half, beginning with Emma Hawkins forcing another save from the SHSU keeper that nearly found the bottom left corner of the net in the 55th minute.
- The 59th minute saw an Anika Sultan strike from about 18 yards out, take a wicked deflection and flew just over the crossbar.
- McCombs was called to action again in the 63rd minute, denying yet another equalizing opportunity for the Bearkats as she quickly dove down to her right.
- The Bears would finally double their advantage in the 68th minute on an Emma Hawkins strike from just inside the 18 yard box. Hawkins cut inside and saw her left footed strike find the opposite corner on what was a great finish.
- SHSU showed signs of life despite being down two goals and would score two goals of their own in the 74th and 75th minute, equalizing in the blink of an eye.
- Morgan Rollow would have the final opportunity of regulation for the Bears on a half volley opportunity in the 84th minute, who couldn't keep her strike down as it sailed over the crossbar.
Extra Time
- The first period of extra time saw a very controversial penalty awarded to the Bearkats in the 98th minute, and SHSU's Kaylyn Bigford made no mistake on the penalty, sending McCombs the wrong way.
The Bears finished the match with 14 shots, hitting nine of them on frame. McCombs was huge for the Bears tonight, with five total saves on the night.
