BEARS FALL TO CARDINALS IN 10 INNINGS

BEAUMONT, Texas _ The Lamar Cardinals got an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning on Friday night to beat the University of Central Arkansas Bears 3-2 in Southland Conference action at Vincent-Beck Stadium.

The Cardinals (18-35, 9-20) put runners at second and third before junior designated hitter Cole Coker dropped a base hit into left field to score Avery George with the game winner.

The Bears, which had won four straight SLC games, had a runner on second base in the top of the 10th but failed to score. UCA, which led for the first five innings, tied the game in the ninth after Lamar had gone ahead 2-1 in the sixth. Senior Tyler Smith walked and Bryce Dodd pinch ran for him. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when Tanner Wiley flew out to right field and Lamar's right fielder threw wildly to third base to try to get Dodd.

UCA (28-25, 18-11) took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Beau Orlando walked, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Wiley and a Lamar error. He scored on Cole Fiori's squeeze bunt.

UCA freshman left hander Noah Cameron went eight innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven. Sophomore Gavin Stone pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits, one run and striking out two. Lamar starter Jason Blanchard struck out 10 and allowed three hits over eight innings.

The Bears and Cardinals will close the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday.
