CONWAY – A sputtering start by the University of Central Arkansas softball team proved too much as the Bears trailed 3-0 after one inning before ultimately falling 8-2 in the Southland Conference opener to Nicholls Saturday at Farris Field.
The UCA (11-11) offense had its opportunities having left seven on base throughout the game, but the Bears were unable to capitalize on their chances. Nicholls (11-11) on the other hand was very opportunistic. The Colonels were able to tally eight runs on just eight hits in the contest.
NOTABLES
- No one in the Southland Conference is in a groove quite like Libby Morris is for the Bears. The Grove, Okla. native launched her seventh big fly of the season, a solo shot, in the fourth inning.
- Kaylyn Shepherd was in danger of losing her on-base streak before drawing a walk in the bottom of the seventh. The first baseman has now reached base safely in all 22 games this season.
- Cylla Hill picked up two of the four hits for the Bears in the contest. She finished the game 2-3 with an RBI-single and a walk.
- Senior Rachel Haberman (3-3) got the start in the circle for UCA and took the loss in the contest. She tossed 5.0 innings, allowed four earned runs and struck out four.
- Leadoff hitter Kayla Crutchmer continues her efficient stretch of softball. She drew two walks on the day, stole a base and scored a run for UCA.
