SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Coming off its biggest win of the season, the University of Central Arkansas softball program will head south for a three-game set with Southland Conference-rival Incarnate Word. First pitch for Friday night's doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m with Game Two to immediately follow. The Bears will conclude their five-game road trip 12 p.m. Saturday at H-E-B Field.
UCA (14-16, 1-5 SLC) won back-to-back midweeks against UL Monroe and Baylor after having lost four consecutive games last week. The win over Baylor was the first victory for the Bears over the Big 12 powerhouse in program history and Central Arkansas will look to carry over that momentum into conference play.
MEET THE CARDINALS
Incarnate Word (2-19, 0-3 SLC) took a week off from competition after some of the student-athletes came up ill before the scheduled weekend series. This will be the first weekend series the well-rested Cardinals squad has hosted this season.
Hope Sobolewski is the top bat in the UIW lineup. She is hitting .245 with two homers and six RBIs. Brett Coleman (1-9) has appeared in 12 games for the Cardinals this season and has amassed a 4.13 ERA over 61.0 innings. She has struck out 34 hitters along the way.
BEAR TO WATCH
Three-hole hitter
Libby Morris is looking for another breakout weekend for the Bears. The Grove, Okla. native leads the team in both home runs (7) and RBIs (30) and is actually second in the nation in sacrifice flies (5).
Morris will pace a Bears lineup that has broke out of a mid-season slump having pounded out 12 total hits against Baylor on Wednesday. Look for the senior to cement her status as one of the most dangerous hitters in the conference this weekend as UCA looks for some much needed Southland wins in San Antonio.
