CONWAY, Ark. _ The South Dakota State Jackrabbits scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning on Saturday night to beat the University of Central Arkansas Bears 7-5 in non-conference action at Bear Stadium.
The Jackrabbits scored twice on three hits and a UCA error to even the series at 1-1 after UCA's 8-3 victory on Friday.Â
The Bears (4-8) trailed 2-0 in the middle of the fourth inning before exploding for five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Catcher Nathaniel Sagdahl led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a balk. Jay Anderson was hit by a pitch before a double play erased him and moved Sagdahl to third. Kolby Johnson's infield hit to shortstop scored Sagdahl. Christian Brasher was hit by a pitch, bringing in Bibiano before Beau Orlando's single to right field scored two more. Tyler Smith supplied the fifth run with an RBI base hit to left field, good for a 5-2 lead.
The Jackrabbits (5-5) tied it with three runs in the sixth with two hits and another UCA error. After falling behind in the top of the ninth, the Bears got a two-out single by Brasher but he was stranded at second.
Six of UCA's seven hits on the night came from the top four batters in the order, with Orlando going 2 for 5 and Smith 2 for 4. UCA freshman Noah Cameron went five innings, allowing five hits and 4 runs and striking out two. Mathew Patton took the loss, going the final 2 1/3 innings and allowing three hits and one earned run.
