CONWAY, Ark. _ The Little Rock Trojans scored five runs in the first four innings to down the University of Central Arkansas Bears 5-1 on Tuesday night in Round 1 of the "Governor's I-40 Showdown" at Bear Stadium.
UCA (6-11) managed just five hits and picked up its lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning when Jay Anderson doubled to second base, advanced on a ground out and scored on a throwing error by Little Rock's left fielder.
After UCA starter Logan Gilberton and reliever Gavin Heltemes gave up two earned runs each in the first four innings, Senior righthander Tanner Wiley came in and shut down the Trojans over the final 5 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out four and walking none.
Anderson, a senior from Humble, Texas,, had two of UCA's five hits. The Trojans got two hits each from Ryan Benavidez and James Gann. Starter Arnold Hayden got the victory, going seven innings and striking out nine and walking one while allowing five hits.
UCA now leads the "Governor's I-40 Showdown" standings 22.5 points to 6.5 points after wrapping up the title with a sweep in men's basketball back in December.
UCA returns to Southland Conference play this weekend, hosting the Nicholls Colonels. Game times are 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at Bear Stadium.
