CONWAY – University of Central Arkansas softball senior
Libby Morris went 2-2 with two runs batted in, but it was not enough as the Bears dropped an 18-3 decision to Ole Miss, Wednesday at Farris Field.
Central Arkansas (9-7) trailed just 6-2 heading into the fifth inning, but it was a barrage of runs from the Rebels that broke the game open. Ole Miss (9-6) tallied four runs in the fifth and eight runs in the sixth to separate themselves from UCA en route to the win.
NOTABLES
- Morris' perfect day at the plate climbed her batting average to .375 for the year. That is good for third on the squad. The Grove, Okla. native leads the Bears with 18 RBIs.
- Kayla Crutchmer was up to her usual tricks in the leadoff spot. She opened the game with a single down the left field line and immediately stole second base. Morris knocked her in shortly after for the Bears first run. The Tulsa, Okla. native went 1-3 on the night.
- The final run of the night came on a blistering double from freshman Tylar Vernon. The Bears catcher ripped a two-bagger into left-center to score Callie Eary in the third inning.
- Reigning Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week Rio Sanchez (2-3) started the game for UCA and allowed four earned runs through 3.0 innings pitched, but unfortunately picked up the loss.
BACK IN ACTION
UCA will shake this one off with a quick turnaround as they are set to open the Adam Brown Shamrock Memorial Classic tomorrow afternoon. The Bears will play at 3 p.m. against in-state foe Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Farris Field.
