BEARS HOST REBELS IN SOFTBALL HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT

CONWAY – In one of two matchups against Southeastern Conference opponents this season, the University of Central Arkansas softball program welcomes Ole Miss 5 p.m., Wednesday for a nonconference-clash at Farris Field.

BEARS VS. REBELS

The Bears are 2-9 against the Rebels all-time and 1-1 in contests held in Conway. The last win for UCA over Ole Miss was on Feb. 15, 2013 when Central Arkansas earned a 4-2 victory in Mobile, Ala. The lone win in Conway came on March 6, 2012, a 6-5 triumph for the Bears.

MEET THE REBELS

Ole Miss (8-6) has power from top to bottom throughout the lineup. Abbey Latham (4), Brittany Finney (4) and Jessica Puk (3) have all sent multiple balls out of the yard this season.. Puk is the team-leader in batting average, hitting a solid .412 with three doubles and five RBIs. Latham has a team-leading 12 runs batted in followed closely by Finney with nine.

As a staff, the Rebels have been superb in the circle despite suffering a few losses. Ole Miss has a team ERA of 1.91 and as a staff has recorded 60 strikeouts on the year. Molly Jacobsen (3-1, 1.27 ERA) has been the most consistent performer in the circle, with Ava Tillmann (2-2, 1.85) not too far behind her.

NUMBERS TO KNOW

Last season's contest with Ole Miss resulted in a 9-3 defeat for UCA. Reagan Sperling opened the scoring with a two-run triple, but ultimately the Bears could not hold off the potent Rebels lineup.

This season, the Bears have a pretty strong lineup of their own to counter Ole Miss. UCA leads the Southland Conference in doubles, home runs per game, scoring and slugging percentage heading into its contest on Wednesday.

Expect the aggressive baserunning to continue for the Bears. UCA ranks 15th nationally in stolen bases per game with Kayla Crutchmer (25th nationally) and Oakley Sisemore (38th nationally) leading the way.

BEAR TO WATCH

UCA do-it-all utility player Morgan Felts is trending up in recent weeks. After a sluggish start to her senior year, Felts has steadied the ship hitting over .350 through her last five games. She wreaks havoc on opposing defenses on the basepaths and is one of the more solid gloves defensively in the Bears' lineup.

Felts, who is no stranger to SEC competition as an University of Arkansas transfer, is third on the squad in runs scored and will need to get on base early and often as the Bears look to take down their SEC-foe.

FOLLOW ALONG

Live streaming for the game will be available on the Bear Nation Network. Play-by-play man Tyler Nelson will be on the call. Live stats will also be available for those looking to follow the action.
