DOUBLEHEADER WITH UAPB AWAITS BEARS ON WEDNESDAY

CONWAY – After a 3-2 weekend in Madeira Beach, Fla., the University of Central Arkansas softball program returns home to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff 4 p.m., Wednesday for a doubleheader at Farris Field.

Central Arkansas (6-4) closed the weekend on a high note having defeated Quinnipiac 6-5 on Saturday before routing South Dakota 9-1 in six innings Sunday morning. Sunday's tilt with the Coyotes was UCA's most complete performance of the season. The combination of Kailla Searcy and Jordan Ward did not surrender a walk, while the Central Arkansas defense did not commit an error in the contest.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
  • The UCA offense has been the catalyst for the Bears through the first 10 games. Central Arkansas currently ranks first in the Southland Conference in batting average (.335), scoring (5.57 runs per game) and slugging percentage (.473).
  • The Bears pitching staff has been pretty good themselves. Searcy, Rachel Haberman and Jordan Johnson have been particularly strong in the circle. Both Haberman and Searcy have sub-1.00 ERAs while Johnson leads the squad in innings pitched (17.1) and is tied with Haberman for strikeouts (12).
  • Defensively, two particular Bears have been noticeably good. Oakley Sisemore ended Saturday's nightcap with Monmouth on a diving snag in left, her third spectacular grab of the young season. Kamryn Coleman has been elite since switching over to third base. She has yet to commit an error in 15 tries which includes some game-changing stops this weekend.

MEET ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF

UAPB (0-4) struggled during its season-opening appearance in the North Texas Tournament. The Lions  dropped a pair of contests to Creighton before losing to North Texas and Seton Hall. UAPB is hitting just .101 as a team after their opening weekend, but does have some fire power in the middle of its order.

The Lions have also had some woes in the circle. Arkansas-Pine Bluff has a team-ERA of 11.03.
