RIVERSIDE, Calif. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears got 28 points from
Eddy Kayouloud but fell 104-98 in overtime to the California Baptist Lancers in the 2K Empire Classic benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.
The Bears (1-5) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring CBU 49-39 in the second half to force overtime. But the Lancers jumped out quickly in the extra period and outscored the Bears 16-10 in overtime to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Kayouloud, a sophomore from Paris, France, scored a season-high 28 points, hitting 9 of 16 from the field and 10 of 13 at the free-throw line. He added 8 rebounds and four assists in a team-high 40 minutes of action. Junior transfer guard
Rylan Bergersen scored a career-high 20 points and went 8 of 9 at the foul line as UCA went 25 of 34 (76 percent).Â
The Bears trailed for most of the game but tied it at 56-56 on a three-pointer from junior center
Hayden Koval at the 16-minute mark of the second half. Koval was not far off a triple-double, finishing with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 blocked shots. Redshirt freshman
Jaxson Baker added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the Bears.
The Lancers made 15 (of 37) three-pointers and shot 29 of 38 at the free-throw line.
UCA will face Prairie View A&M at 6:30 Saturday. Prairie View lost 83-74 to Georgia State on Friday.
