SUGAR BEARS LOOK TO STAY HOT AGAINST CARDINALS

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears will look for their sixth straight SLC win tomorrow night as they will welcome the Incarnate Word Cardinals (7-21, 3-11 SLC) to the Prince Center at 6 p.m. The Sugar Bears (14-13, 8-6 SLC) currently sit at No. 6 in the SLC standings and can slide into No. 5 with a win and Houston Baptist loss as they will face Nicholls at 7 p.m.

Central Arkansas will enter the match with top SLC ranks in team kills (1,484) and assists (1,383) while ranking third in kills per set (13.02), assists per set (12.13) and total attacks (3,988). Senior Abbie Harry will look to build off her already impressive 2019 campaign as she currently ranks second in total kills (388) and points (439) and third in kills per set (3.63) and points per set (4.10). Junior Emily Doss will look to replicate her last week performance defensively as she turned in 54 digs over 10 sets. She currently ranks third in the SLC in total digs with 514.

The Sugar Bears won the first matchup with the Cardinals in a 3-2 battle on October 3. Sophomore Madi Bowles led Central Arkansas to the finish line with a game-high 23 kills on a scorching .688 hitting percentage.

MEET (AGAIN) THE INCARNATE WORD CARDINALS

The Incarnate Word Cardinals reside in San Antonio, Texas and will look to rebound from their latest 3-0 loss to the Stephen F. Austin LadyJacks on November 9 during Senior Night. Although the Cardinals promote the worst SLC record, the Sugar Bears will need to be focused from the beginning as they fell behind the Cardinals 2-0 on October 3 and had to rally for the 3-2 win.

The Cardinals will enter the match with only one top-5 SLC rank as they sit at No. 4 in team service aces (149) with their next best mark coming at No. 6 in aces per set (1.39). Their total kills rank bottom three at No. 10 (1,201) and they allow opposing teams to do well offensively as they rank dead-last in opponent hitting percentage (.266).

Sophomore six-footer Bethany Clapp is one of the Cardinals' top offensive threats as she ranks fifth in SLC in service aces (33) and sixth in total attacks (926) and points (362.5). She ranks second on the team in total kills (302) while junior six-footer Julia Monday ranks first with 306 on the year.

ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH JOHN NEWBERRY ON THE MATCH

"We are excited to finish out our conference season at home. Coming off this 5-game winning streak, we've been asking ourselves if we can sustain the wins and be consistent. The team has been very good about limiting our errors during games. We will need to continue this progress to win.

Incarnate Word has all the tools to win against anyone in the conference. We are expecting them to come in with an aggressive mentality knowing that they were up 2-0 last time we played them."
