BEARS FALL TO UIW

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – It was a tough outing tonight for Central Arkansas women's soccer team as they faced an Incarnate Word squad that was undefeated in Southland Conference play coming into tonight.

UCA created chances early on in the first half, but were just unable to convert their chances. The match then settled down, and it ultimately became a battle of possession as the first half progressed. UCA wouldn't concede until late in the second half, leaving little time to find an equalizer and would concede a penalty in the final moments as they fell 2-0.

First Half

  • Central Arkansas would create the first opportunity in the first half as Emma Hawkins found herself three yards away from goal, but was denied by the UIW keeper.
  • Lauren Hargus would get into the action in the 11th minute as her strike down the middle forced another save from the UIW keeper.
  • UCA continued to threaten when Hawkins found herself in another scoring opportunity, striking the ball down the middle and forcing another save.
  • UIW had two scoring opportunities in the 29th and 31st minute, but Reagan McCombs was equal to the task and was able to deny the Cardinals.

Second Half

  • The 52nd minute saw Hawkins force another save from the UIW keeper on a hard-hit strike down the middle.
  • No opportunities were generated the next 30 minutes, until the 78th minute where UIW finally broke the deadlock on a finish from three yards out.
  • The Cardinals would double their advantage in the 83rd minute after a penalty kick was awarded and converted, giving the two-goal cushion.

The Bears finished the match with nine shots, striking five on target. McCombs finished the match six saves on the evening.
