ABILENE, Texas _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears made short work of the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Sunday, grabbing a 16-4 run-rule victory in eight innings in Southland Conference baseball action at Crutcher Scott Field.
Davenport (5-2), a junior right hander from Fayetteville, went the distance, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four in his third complete game of the season. Potvin, a junior right fielder from Belton, Texas, went 4 for 4 with three RBI and a run scored as UCA out-hit ACU 15-7.
UCA, 28-18 overall, scored six runs in the fourth to break open the game, then added four in the seventh and three more in the eighth against a combination of four ACU pitchers. Senior center fielder Keaton Presley and senior designated hitter Justin McCarty both had three RBI, while senior shortstop Josh Somdecerff and junior first baseman Tyler Smith had two each.
All nine starters scored at least one run for the Bears, with seven players scoring twice. Presley had a pair of doubles and Somdecerff and McCarty added one each.
UCA totaled 42 hits and 35 runs in the three-game sweep, drawing 16 walks and getting hit eight times while hitting .393 on the weekend.
UCA, which won its fifth consecutive game, hosts Arkansas State at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The third-place Bears return to SLC play next weekend, hosting second-place Southeastern Louisiana in the next-to-last series of the season.
