Hammond, Louisiana – The Central Arkansas women's tennis team took to the court on Sunday afternoon looking to snap a short two-match losing streak by taking on the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions. The Sugar Bears did just that, overcoming a slow start to the day with a dominant performance in singles play to earn a 5-2 win.
Central Arkansas (11-5, 4-3 SLC) found itself trailing after the doubles portion of the match for just the third time this season after dropping two of the three contests.
QiLi Ma and
Rada Manataweewat opened the pairs competition with a 6-4 win over Fleur Holtkamp and Ceci Mercier in the number three slot, pushing their record to 11-2 on the season, but Southeastern Louisiana (5-12, 2-7 SLC) would get a 7-5 win from Dalina Dahlmans and Ximena Yanez in the top slot and a 6-2 victory from Katya Cornejo and Jiva de Veer at the number twos to secure the doubles point.
The Sugar Bears would respond in a resounding way in the singles half however, taking the first four points to secure the overall victory and dropping a single set in their five wins. Ma got things started for Central Arkansas at the number four position, improving to 4-8 on the season with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Dany Raygadas, before
Chunan Xiang took out Holtkamp 6-1, 6-3 in the number two match to giver herself a 5-8 record.
Marli Van Heerden continued her blistering start to the season at the number six slot, staying unbeaten on the year with her 13
th-straight win of the year (and her 16
th-consecutive victory dating back to last season) with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Cornejo, while
Hee-Jin Oh moved to 11-4 on the year thanks to a 7-6, 2-6, 10-6 win against Mercier in the number three slot to lock up the match in favor of the Sugar Bears. Dahlmans would add a point for SLU with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over
Amiru Shimoguchi on the fifth court, but
Pornpawee Pramethong closed out the match with a win at the top slot, taking out Madina Vorotnikova 6-2, 6-3, improving to 8-6 overall in the process.
Central Arkansas is back at it again tomorrow, taking on the University of New Orleans at 10:00 AM.
