BEARS DROP SERIES FINALE AT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN

Nacogdoches, Texas – After waiting nearly 44 hours to wrap up their Southland Conference series at Stephen F. Austin due to weather, the Central Arkansas softball Bears dropped just their second conference series of the season, falling in the rubber match by a final score of 6-0.

Central Arkansas (20-17,9-6 SLC) managed just a pair of hits on the day, getting a bunt single from shortstop Kate Myers in the fourth and an infield single from left fielder Oakley Sisemore in the seventh, but still managed to put 10 runners on base thanks to seven walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Stephen F. Austin took a two-lead on a two-run double from first baseman Margarita Corona in the fifth inning, and added two more runs on an error off the bat of third baseman Lauren Becker. The Ladyjacks got two more runs in the sixth inning, thanks to an RBI fielder's choice from Corona and a single to right from right fielder Autumn Holloway.

The Bears, who stranded a pair in the first inning and left the bases loaded in the fourth, threatened to rally in the seventh, loading the base behind walks from catcher Lauren Brooks and right fielder Morgan Felts, along with Sisemore's infield single, but SFA pitcher Makayla Sikes was able to stop a hard-hit ball and fire to first for the final out of the game.

Rio Sanchez (8-5) worked 4.0 innings and allowed a pair of runs on four hits and three walks, while Maddy Prough, Kailla Searcy, and Rachel Haberman each threw 0.2 innings in relief. Prough surrendered a pair of hits, Searcy gave up two runs on two walks, and Haberman allowed one hit.

The Bears close out a four-game road trip at Ole Miss at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, before hosting Lamar for a three game series at Farris Field over the weekend. The Bears and Cardinals will play a doubleheader at 5:00 PM on Friday and a single game at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
