BEARS TAKE SERIES WITH 7-3 WIN OVER ISLANDERS

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Arkansas Bears won their fourth Southland Conference series of the season Sunday, beating the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders 7-3 at Bear Stadium.

UCA (25-18, 13-8) got a three-hit day from senior third baseman Rigo Aguilar and a pair of RBIs from junior second baseman T.J. Black to take the series 2-1 over the Islanders (21-24, 6-15). Junior right hander Cody Davenport went 6 2/3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs while striking out 4 to improve his record to 4-2. Junior Conner Williams went 2 1/3 solid innings out of the bullpen, allowing no runs and striking out three.

The Bears struck first in the second inning when Aguilar singled to right field and went to third on Colby LeBlanc's base hit to right. Both runners scored when Black poked a single up the middle to give the Bears an early 2-0 lead. UCA got two more in the third inning, with the help of two of  the Islanders' three errors on the day.

After the Islanders got two runs back in the top of the fourth, the Bears stretched their lead to 6-2 in the fifth on Josh Somdecerff's RBI double to the left-center gap and Aguilar followed with an RBI single up the middle. UCA got one more run in the sixth on an RBI double to the left-field corern by Coby Potvin.

Both teams finished with 11 hits, with Aguilar going 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Black finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while Potvin went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run.

UCA will not play a mid-week game this week because of final exams. The Bears return to SLC action next weekend at Abilene Christian.
