BEARS ROUT DELTA DEVILS TO SECURE SWEEP

Conway – For the second-straight day the Central Arkansas Bears reached double-digits in the run column, taking advantage of 22 hits, nine walks, five hit-by-pitches, and five Mississippi Valley State errors to take down the Delta Devils 27-2.

Central Arkansas (6-6), who scored at least four runs in five different innings, took an early lead by putting up five runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back, adding nine in the fourth, four in both the fifth and sixth, and five in the seventh.

Designated hitter Jay Anderson led the Central Arkansas offense, going 3-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored, while third baseman Rigo Aguilar turned in a 4-for-5 performance and drove in three runs while scoring five. First baseman Tyler Smith and pinch hitter/first baseman Justin McCarty each went 2-for-2 with three RBI. Outfield Brett D'Amico drove in three runs in his first start as a Bears, and fellow outfielder Michael Haun added a pair of RBI.

Junior Ricky Ramirez made the most of his first start on the mound for Central Arkansas, earning the win on the back of 5.0 innings of one-hit, one-walk work that saw him strike out six batters. Gavin Stone, Beaux Bonvilliain, and Conner Williams each worked a scoreless inning of relief, with Stone striking out three, Bonvillian one, and Williams two, and Logan Clark added a pair of strikeouts while working the final inning.

Central Arkansas hits the road this weekend, heading to Lake Charles, Louisiana to open Southland Conference play with a three-game set at McNeese State. The Bears and Cowboys will face off at 6:00 PM on Friday night, 3:00 PM Saturday, and 1:00 PM on Sunday.
