STREAK SNAPPED AS SUGAR BEARS FALL AT SAM HOUSTON STATE

Huntsville, Texas – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears returned to Southland Conference play after a two-week break on Saturday, taking on the Sam Houston State Bearkats at the McAdams Center in Huntsville, Texas. Despite taking the doubles point, the Sugar Bears dropped the match 4-3 on the day, snapping their eight-match winning streak.

Central Arkansas (9-3, 2-1 SLC) swept the doubles contests to take a 1-0 lead in the match, as Amiru Shimoguchi and Chunan Xiang took the number two match 6-2 over Fabienne Gettwart and Roos Gerristen to move to 6-4 on the season and Marli Van Heerden and Pornpawee Pramethong scored a 6-4 victory against Carrie Casey and Mila Milanovic to push their record to 8-3 on the season and secure the point for the Sugar Bears.

Sam Houston State (9-4, 4-2 SLC) stormed out of the gates in the singles competition, getting a 6-0, 6-1 win from Sahaja Yamalapalli at the number two slot, a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win from Gettwart at the number one position, a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 win from Lusine Chobanyan, and a 6-4, 6-4 victory from Carrie at the number four slow to take the match. Van Heerden got Central Arkansas back on the board at the number six slot, earning her ninth-straight win  of the year, with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-1 defeat of Milanovic, before Hee-Jin Oh took the number three tilt from Khee Yen Wee 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) to move to 9-2 on the season.

Central Arkansas takes to the court again tomorrow afternoon, heading to Beaumont, Texas to take on the Lamar, Cardinals at 1:00 PM.
