Beaumont, Texas –The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears bounced back from their first conference loss of the season with a resounding win on Sunday, taking down the Lamar Cardinals 5-2 at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Sugar Bears (10-3, 3-1 SLC) opened the match with a pair of sweeps to take the doubles point, with
QiLi Ma and
Rada Manataweewat defeating Natalia Molina and Sanja Jolic to move to 10-1 on the year and
Amiru Shimoguchi and
Chunan Xiang taking down Kaela di Giulio and Milena Belianovich to improve to 7-4 on the season. The number one match between
Marli Van Heerden and
Pornpawee Pramethong and Lamar's (3-12, 1-5 SLC) Jasmin Buchta and Amelie Vossgaetter went unfinished with Van Heerden and Pramethong leading 3-2.
Pramethong got things going in the singles competition, defeating Jolic 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 for her sixth win of the year, before Belianovich got the Cardinals on the board with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Manataweewat at the number six slot. Van Heerden responded with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 defeat of Molina in the number five tilt to improve to 10-0 on the season but LU got the point back with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3) win from Buchta at the number two position, before the Sugar Bears closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win from Shimoguchi at the number four and a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win from Ma in the number three to close out the match.
The Sugar Bears return home for a pair of matches next weekend, hosting Nicholls at 2:00 PM on Saturday and McNeese at 11:00 AM on Sunday.
