STREAK SNAPPED AS BEARS FALL TO OKLAHOMA STATE

Conway – The Central Arkansas softball Bears saw their six-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, thanks to a 10-1, six inning loss to #24 Oklahoma State at Farris Field.

Central Arkansas (12-10) scored the game's first run, as shortstop Kate Myers and first baseman Kaylyn Shepherd each worked a two-walk, before second baseman Libby Morris rapped a line drive over the outstretched glove of Oklahoma State (21-6) third baseman Vanessa Shippy to drive in Myers and put the Bears on top 1-0.

The Cowgirls would answer immediately, getting an RBI single from centerfielder Maddi Holcomb to even the game at 1-1. A solo home run from first baseman Jessi Haffner put Oklahoma State up 2-1 in the third inning, before second baseman Madi Sue Montgomery added a solo shot and left fielder Chelsea Alexander picked up a three-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Cowgirls a 6-1 lead.

After Oklahoma State got an RBI single from right fielder Taylor Lynch and a three-run home run from Montgomery in the sixth, the Bears threatened in the bottom of the inning, getting a double off the wall from Myers and a hit-by-pitch from Morris, but a foul-out ended the game.

Rio Sanchez (6-3) started in the circle for the Bears, taking the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout in 4.1 innings. Rachel Haberman worked 0.2 innings, surrendering six runs, just three earned, on five hits and a walk, while Kailla Searcy worked the final 1.0 inning, giving up one run on one hit and a pair of walks.
Myers led the bears offensively on the day, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run scored, while Morris was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Central Arkansas returns to Southland Conference play on with a three-game series on the road this weekend, traveling to San Antonio, Texas to take on the University of the Incarnate Word. The Bears and Cardinals will play a doubleheader beginning Friday evening at 5:00 PM, before facing off for a single game at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
