SUGAR BEARS COME UP SHORT AGAINST SOUTH ALABAMA

CONWAY — Central Arkansas was held to just six points in the third quarter and fell behind by as many as 15 in the 4th quarter before closing on an 11-4 run over the last 4:20, but the offensive spark came a little too late for the Sugar Bears as they fell 58-50 to South Alabama in the Farris Center on Saturday.

The Sugar Bears (2-2) shot just 27.6 percent from the field while South Alabama (3-1) converted 42.9 percent of its shots, including 50 percent from 3-point range as the Jaguars knocked down 5 of 10 while holding the Sugar Bears to 3 of 15 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore forward Hannah Langhi led the Sugar Bears with 14 points while also grabbing 6 rebounds and getting 2 steals in 34 minutes while senior guard Kamry Orr added 10 points – hitting 3-of-7 from 3-point range, the only Sugar Bear to connect from long distance. Senior guard Alanie Fisher, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds at Jackson State on Tuesday, added 9 rebounds – including six on the offensive end, giving her 15 offensive boards over the the last two games.

South Alabama got 21 points from Damaya Telemaque, the only Jaguar in double figures. Savannah Jones, last year's Sun Belt Freshman of the Year who scored 20 in the Jags' win over the Sugar Bears in Mobile last December, was held to 5 points on 2-for-6 shooting in 21 minutes.

The Sugar Bears will get a 10-day break from action, resuming play Nov. 28 at Alcorn State before returning to the Farris Center to take on Crowley's Ridge College on Dec. 1.
