BEARS FALL TO PHOENIX ON LATE GOAL

Green Bay, Wisconsin - In their last non-conference matchup of the season, Central Arkansas (5-5-2) traveled to Wisconsin to face Green Bay (6-4-2), in a match that saw many opportunities go begging as they would eventually fall 1-0 in a hard-fought battle.

UCA would create the first opportunity of the match in the 10th minute as Christian Ilia's corner kick would find the head of Daltyn Knutson. Knutson's header was on target and forced Green Bay keeper Nikola Kahvedzic to make his first save of the afternoon. Niklas Brodacki would have another opportunity for the Bears in the 15th minute, but his shot flashed just wide.

From there, neither team would post a shot for the remainder of the first half and the teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 going into halftime.

The second half saw Central Arkansas create a flurry of chances beginning with a strike from Soren Jensen in the 50th minute that forced another Kahvedzic save. Kasper Andersen would test his luck in the 58th minute as he saw his strike on target saved again by Kahvedzic, keeping the score a 0-0 with just over 30 minutes to play in the match.

The 69th minute saw back-to-back Ilia corner kicks, but again the Bears were unable to capitalize on either opportunity as the chances went begging. Jensen would have his second and third shots on target for the match in the 76th and 77th minute, but again Green Bay keeper Kahvedzic was equal to the task on both efforts.

Despite not having a single shot on frame the entire match, Green Bay would finally get on the scoresheet in the 89th minute as Joey Bourgeois dribbled through the backline and slid the ball into back post of UCA's net. It would be the only shot on goal for Green Bay and would ultimately be the decider of the match. With little time to attempt a comeback, the Bears would fall 1-0 despite a 10-4 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.

UCA coach Ross Duncan alluded to the difference in shots after the game.

"It was frustrating to give that game away late. We felt like we did more than enough in the first 88 minutes to get a win, so to give up a goal at that point was tough," said Duncan.

Central Arkansas resumes Missouri Valley Conference play next Saturday as they travel to Indiana to face Valparaiso. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
