Conway – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team returned to the field on Sunday afternoon, heading to Pine Bluff to take on the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions. After a somewhat slow start, the Bears got things rolling in the second half, taking down the Lady Lions 6-0.
Central Arkansas (1-1) dominated possession in the first half, outshooting UAPB (0-1) 11-1 in the first 45 minutes of the game and putting five of those shots on goal. The Bears took little time to get the pressure started, as
Dayna Mounie put a shot on frame in the seventh minute and
Hadley Dickinson added another six minutes later.
Coming out of the break though, Central Arkansas got to work immediately, with
Alex Moore slipping a pass to
Camille Bassett, who gave the Bears a 1-0 lead just 26 seconds into the second half. Moore delivered another goal in the 62
nd minute, crossing the ball to Mounie, who headed it home for to push the lead to 2-0, before collecting a pass from Bassett 25 seconds later and making it 3-0.
The Bears would fire off four more shots over the next 20 minutes of play, before
Savannah Tidd pushed the lead to 4-0 with her first career goal in the 87
th minute, gathering a pass from
Maci Schoonover and slamming it home. Schoonover would pick up her first collegiate goal 44 seconds later, finishing on a feed from
Dawson Depperschmidt to push the UCA lead to 5-0, before
Lauren Hargus became the third UCA player to net their first career goal, getting a pass from
Alex Wetteland and knocking it home to cap the scoring at 6-0.
On the day, the Bears took 27 shots and were on target on 14 of them, led by three shots on frame from Mounie and two from Bassett. In goal,
Anna Hughes and
Lauren Mercuri each made one save.
"We got the opportunity to try out some different combinations with our personnel today," said UCA head coach Jeremy Bishop. "Everyone healthy got a lot of minutes. Those experiences will pay off as we move forward through the season."
Central Arkansas opens the home portion of its schedule Friday, playing host to Missouri State at 6:00 PM. The Bears will then travel to Starkville, Mississippi next Sunday, to face off with Mississippi State at 1:00 PM.
