CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears completed the sweep of Abilene Christian on Sunday, beating the Wildcats 10-2 in Southland Conference action at Bear Stadium.
The Bears (27-20) improved to 15-9 in conference play with their sixth consecutive series victory. ACU fell to 12-33 overall and 2-22 in the SLC.
The Bears struck early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to back the strong pitching of redshirt freshman Mark Moyer, who went seven innings and allowed six hits and two runs. Junior designated hitter Justin McCarty went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI to lead UCA's 10-hit attack.
Junior third baseman Rigo Aguilar had his second two-run home run in as many days, finishing 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Aguilar leads the Bears with six home runs on the year.Â
Back-to-back doubles in the first inning by Aguilar and McCarty gave the Bears a lead they would never lose. UCA added an unearned run in the fourth and two more in the fifth on Aguilar's shot to left center. A bases-loaded walk to Jansen McCurdy in the sixth inning made it a 7-2 lead for the Bears.
UCA got three more runs in the seventh, with RBIs coming from catcher William Hancock and Keaton Presley. Senior Brandon Hagerla pitched a scoreless eighth and junior Ty Tice did the same in the ninth to finish off Moyer's fifth victory of the year.
Aguilar, Presley and Hunter Strong all had two hits for the Bears.Â
UCA plays at Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 3 p.m. Tuesday before heading to Hammond, La., this weekend to take on Southeastern Louisiana in SLC play.
