Abilene, Texas – The Central Arkansas softball Bears took to the field for a doubleheader against one of the Southland Conference's top teams on Friday, playing a doubleheader against second-place Abilene Christian. The Bears took the first game 3-2, before falling in the night cap 2-0.
Abilene Christian (29-19, 17-6 SLC) struck first in the day's first game, getting an RBI single from second baseman Holly Neese in the bottom of the first inning. Central Arkansas (21-31, 11-12 SLC) would even the score in the top of the third inning, as left fielder
Hannah Stirton launched her second home run of the season over the fence in left field.
After a ground-rule double from designated player Donelle Johnson gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, the Bears were again able to respond, when first baseman
Kaylyn Shepherd singled down the left field line to score center fielder

Lauren Brooks would lead off the top of the sixth inning with a walk, before being erased on a fielder's choice from pinch hitter
Bailey Reynolds. After a throwing error allowed Reynolds to advance to second,
Brianna McArthur came on to pinch run. Shortstop Kate Myers then delivered for the Bears, roping a double to right field to drive in McArthur and give the Bears the 3-2 lead.
Kayla Gomness (14-15) picked up the win for the Bears, allowing just one unearned run on six hits and a walk while striking out four.
In the second game of the day, Abilene Christian got RBI groundouts in the second and third innings for the game's only runs.
Despite the shutout, the Bears were able to generate scoring chances in the game, stranding a pair of runners in the second, sixth, and seventh innings.
Kailla Searcy (3-5) took the loss in game two after surrendering two earned runs on six hits and a walk. She struck out three batters.
The Bears and Wildcats will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 12:00 PM.
