CONWAY — Brianna Mullins matched her career high with 25 points and Kierra Jordan added 18 in 15 minutes as Central Arkansas easily defeated Southeastern Louisiana 77-55 in the Farris Center on Saturday for the Sugar Bears' eighth consecutive win.
The Sugar Bears (17-4, 9-2 Southland) outscored the Lady Lions (4-18, 2-9) 38-14 in the paint, 29-8 off turnovers, and made a season-high 27 free throws as they defeated Southeastern for the sixth consecutive time and remain a game behind Abilene Christian – which comes to Conway on Wednesday – in the loss column for first place in the Southland standings.
Mullins was 7 of 10 from the field and 9 of 12 at the free throw line as she equaled the highest point total in her four years as a Sugar Bear, matching the 25 she scored at Abilene Christian during her freshman season. Jordan scored in double figures for the 10th time this season, going 7 of 112 from the field and 4 of 7 at the line. Taylor Baudoin added 11 points and tied Raquel Logan for the team lead with 8 rebounds. Logan blocked a pair of shots to raise her career total to 93 – three short of equaling Courtney Duever's Division I era program record. Taylor Sells had a career-high 6 assists to go with 8 points, 3 rebounds a block and a steal.
The Sugar Bears got out to a 17-13 lead after the first quarter and then outscored the Lady Lions 22-12 in the second to take a 39-25 lead. After the Lady Lions played the Sugar Bears almost even in the third quarter – with Central Arkansas holding a 12-11 edge – the Sugar Bears closed the game out with a 26-point fourth quarter to keep the lead at a comfortable margin the entire period.
Southeastern got 25 points and 8 rebounds from Taylin Underwood, while Bre Warren added 10 points.
The Lady Lions shot just 32.1 percent for the game, improving the Sugar Bears' field goal percentage defense for the season – which ranked 15th nationally coming in at .351. Central Arkansas maximized the Lady Lion miscues, getting 29 points off 19 Southeastern turnovers.
Next up for the Sugar Bears is Abilene Christian on Wednesday, with a chance to pull into what could be a four-way tie for the lead in the conference title race. The Wildcats sit atop the Southland standings at 9-1, with the Sugar Bears, Stephen F. Austin and Lamar all tied just behind them with two league losses each.
