SUGAR BEARS DEFEAT SOUTHEASTERN 78-64 FOR 13TH STRAIGHT WIN

HAMMOND, La. — Central Arkansas held Southeastern Louisiana scoreless for more than 11 minutes in the first half, going on a 29-0 run to pull away from the Lady Lions and cruise to a 78-64 win at the University Center on Wednesday.

The Sugar Bears (22-4, 14-2 Southland) held the Lady Lions (5-22, 3-13) without a field goal in the second quarter, outscoring Southeastern 19-5 in the period after a 30-15 first quarter to build a lead as large as 34 in the half to quickly distance themselves and roll to their 13th consecutive win –extending the nation's sixth-longest streak.

The win was the 100th at Central Arkansas for head coach Sandra Rushing, who improves to 100-49 in her fifth season, including a 50-8 mark since the start of last season. During that time, the Sugar Bears are 30-4 in Southland games and have gone 19-5 on the road, including 16-1 in conference games away from the Farris Center.

Kierra Jordan led the Sugar Bears with 20 points and 7 rebounds while getting a season-high 3 assists. Maggie Proffitt added 17 points and led the Sugar Bears with 5 assists. Taylor Baudoin had 12 points and 5 rebounds, and Bhrea Griffin had a season-high 7 points, all in the first half.

The Sugar Bears shot 50 percent for the game, including 59.4 percent in the first half, while holding Southeastern to 35.3 percent – with the Lady Lions hitting just 5 of 23 (21.7 percent) in the first half, including 0-for-9 in the second quarter when all five of their points came at the free throw line. Southeastern was 20 of 27 at the line for the night, while the Sugar bears were 13 of 19. The Sugar Beras were just 1 of 5 from 3-point range, with Maddie Goodner hitting her only attempt, while the Lady Lions were 8 of 19.

Charlie Dugas had 19 for Southeastern, with Taylin Underwood getting 16 and Bre Warren 12.

With two games left in the regular season, the Sugar Bears remain in first place in the Southland standings and are aiming to become the league's first team to repeat as the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament since 2002.

They come home Saturday to face 4th-place Stephen F. Austin, which sits at 11-3 heading into its game Thursday at New Orleans. In the final home game for seniors Raquel Logan, Brianna Mullins, Taylor Strickland and Proffitt, the Sugar Bears will have a chance to secure one of the top two seeds for the Southland Conference tournament, which results in a double bye to the semifinals. The Sugar Bears were the top seed in last year's tournament, beating McNeese and Sam Houston State en route to their first championship and NCAA tournament trip in Division I.

After Saturday's game with the Ladyjacks, the Sugar Bears wrap up the regular season at Northwestern State on March 4.
