CONWAY — Central Arkansas held Southeastern Louisiana without a field goal and to only two points in the second quarter and the Lady Lions never recovered as the Sugar Bears scored their 14th consecutive home victory, defeating the Lady Lions 63-47 in the Farris Center on Sunday.
The Sugar Bears (9-4, 2-0 Southland) – who have the nation's No. 2 scoring defense – once again suffocated the opposing offense, holding the Lady Lions (1-12, 0-2 Southland) 12 points below their season average and kept their fourth straight foe to 50 points or less as they limited Southeastern to 32.7 percent shooting.
The Lady Lions battled the Sugar Bears nearly evenly in the first quarter, with Central Arkansas needing a 3-pointer from
Angel Williams just before the buzzer to take an 18-17 lead. In the second quarter, however, the Sugar Bears pulled away as they kept Southeastern off the scoreboard until just 2.4 seconds remained in the half, when the Lady Lions got their only points of the quarter on a pair of free throws from Caitlyn Williams to make it 31-19 at the break.
The Sugar Bears eventually built a lead as large as 22 in the 4th quarter before the Lady Lions were able to close it to the final margin with a couple of late baskets – including a layup from Williams with 19 seconds remaining for the final score.
Senior
Kierra Jordan led the way for the Sugar Bears, notching a double-double for the second consecutive game as she equaled her season high with 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, both game highs. Junior guard
Kamry Orr added 19 points and 5 rebounds.
Taylor Baudoin added 9 points and 7 rebounds, the first time in 12 games the senior forward has not reached double figures in scoring.
Those three along with Williams each dished out three assists, while Orr and
Maddie Goodner had three steals apiece to lead the Sugar Bears, who had 11 in all to just two for the Lady Lions. The Sugar Bears forced 20 Lady Lion turnovers, which they converted into 20 points.
Largely behind Jordan's 20 points – which came on 9-of-14 shooting along with a pair of free throws – the Sugar Bears dominated inside, holding a 42-20 advantage on points in the paint.
The Lady Lions got 15 points from Taylin Underwood, the Southland's second-leading scorer at 18.6 points per game.
The Sugar Bears, who played for the second straight game without head coach Sandra Rushing due to family medical emergency, will look to start 3-0 in the league for the first time since the 2012-13 season when Sam Houston State visits the Farris Center on Wednesday.

QUOTES
Associate Head Coach Greg Long
"I'm really happy for the win – but our defense was absolutely unacceptable. They did what they needed to do in in the 2nd quarter, but in the 3rd and 4th there were too many missed assignments and there wasn't any communication out there. We had people getting lit up by screens. We've got a lot of things to work on."
"We had some horrible ball-handling and decision-making. We had 14 turnovers, all on us. It wasn't that [Southeatern] caused the turnovers, we had a lot of mental mistakes. We've got to do a better job of handling the ball."
"KJ did a great job, and her teammates did a great job of finding her. We had 13 assists, played very unselfish basketball. KJ really showed up when we needed her tonight."
"Kamry was more aggressive, but she's got to get better running some things and seeing some things. But she did a good job running the show."
"I thought Angel did an extremely good job on Underwood in the 1st half, then Sells came in and gave us some minutes – she wasn't really tuned in at first, but did a better job in the 2nd half. I'm disappointed (Underwood) got 15, but she's a great player. She's the 2nd leading scorer in the conference, and we held her below her average but I thought we could have held her lower than that."
"We've got Sam Houston on Wednesday, we've got to go get ready for them. Then we've got Lamar on Saturday. We've got a long way to go. But we did what we needed to do, and we got two wins for Coach Rushing while she's been absent. Hopefully she'll be able to get back soon."
