Peoria, Illinois – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team played its final Missouri Valley Conference match of the regular season on Saturday, falling to the Bradley Braves by a tally of 3-0. Despite the loss, the Bears secured their best-ever finish in MVC play, going 5-3-0 in league play to earn the second seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
Bradley (9-7-1, 3-3-1 MVC) opened the day's scoring in the 25
th minute, when Younes Dayekh flicked in a long pass from Falk Dennert for his fifth goal of the season. BU would add another tally in the 37
th minute, getting a header from Gerit Wintermayer off of a throw in from Jacob Taylor. With 36 seconds remaining in the first half, Roman Schindler would hammer home a cross from Clark Emerson to cap the day's scoring. The Bears would fire three shots on goal in the half, but
Kyosuke Kubota,
Daltyn Knutson, and
Chris Holmes were all turned away.
Kubota and
Niklas Brodacki would generate chances for the Bears in the second half, but Central Arkansas was unable to break through.
"That was a tough way to finish out the regular season in conference play," said UCA head coach Ross Duncan. "We knew this week would be a challenge, but we let ourselves down in the first half today. With an opponent like Bradley, you really have to be disciplined in the match. The first time we played them, we did a great job with that and that is why we got the result. Today we let discipline go in bad moments; that was the difference."
The Bears close out the regular season at home on Tuesday night, playing host to regional opponent Oral Roberts at the Bill Stephens Complex. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM. The Bears will then return to action in the MVC Tournament on Friday, November 10
