Conway – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears returned to the Prince Center on Thursday night, hosting the Abilene Christian Wildcats in Southland Conference action. The Sugar Bears rolled on the night, getting a career night from
Amanda Dimon while sweeping the Wildcats 25-20, 25-18, 25-21.
Abilene Christian (8-14, 4-6 SLC) and Central Arkansas (20-3, 9-2 SLC) would exchange points early with the Wildcats taking an 8-5 lead before the Sugar Bears used a 5-1 run to take a 10-9 lead. ACU would take the next point to even the set at 10-10, but UCA would then grab seven of the next nine points to open up a 17-12 lead. Central Arkansas would extend the edge to 21-16 to force a timeout from the Wildcats, who would take four of the first five points out of the stoppage to force a UCA timeout. Central Arkansas would come out of the break on fire, taking three straight points out of the stoppage to close out the set. Central Arkansas dug 27 ACU attacks and picked up 4.0 team blocks to hold the Wildcats to a .100 hitting percentage, led by Dimon who tallied 13 digs on her own.
Abilene Christian would again take an early lead in the second set, going up 8-4 before the Sugar Bears got a 6-0 run to take a 10-8 lead. Once again the Wildcats would even the match, before UCA got five straight points to go on top 15-10. The Sugar Bears would extend the lead to 19-12, before trading points to close out the set. The UCA defense was on display again in the set, getting 14 digs and 2.0 team blocks to hold ACU to a -.062 attack percentage. Dimon added seven digs to her total, while offensively the Sugar Bears got four kills from
Samantha Anderson.
The third set would continue the trend set in the first two, as Abilene Christian took a 12-9 lead before the Sugar Bears again battled back, using a 5-1 run to take a 14-13 lead. As in the first two sets, the Wildcats would respond with a pair of points, but UCA would get an 8-1 run to put the set out of reach, capping the 13
th sweep of the season with a kill from
Abbie Harry. Harry would lead the Central Arkansas attack in the set, hitting .300 with five kills, while
Elizabeth Armstrong handed out 10 assists.
On the night Dimon paced the UCA defense with a career-high 24 digs, while Haley Tippett added nine. At the net, Anderson had four blocks and
Megan Nash and
Alanna Bramwell each added three blocks. Armstrong passed out 32 assists on the night, while Harry collected a match-high 11 kills.
The Sugar Bears return to action on Saturday, hosting Sam Houston State at noon at the Prince Center.
