Conway – The Central Arkansas Bears welcomed the Big 12's Kansas State Wildcats to the Bill Stephens Complex on Friday evening to kick off the final weekend of non-conference play. The Bears pitched their fourth straight shutout, the most in program history, to defeat K-State 1-0.
Central Arkansas (5-2-0) got the game's lone goal in the 21
st minute, as
Kristen Ricks played a ball forward to
Ashley Smith, who headed it home from eight yards out to put the Bears up 1-0 with her third goal of the season. The assist was Ricks' second of the year.
The Central Arkansas defense continued to excel, pitching its fifth shutout of the season of the season while dropping its goals against average to 0.71 on the year. The Bears have not allowed a goal in the last 384:43. This was the third straight match in with UCA has allowed just three shots on goal.
On the day, Central Arkansas was on target with eight of its 15 shots.
Camille Bassett put a team-high four of her attempts on frame, while Smith was on goal with two shots.
Dayna Mounie and
Autum Schwartz each put one shot on goal. In net for the Bears,
Anna Hughes made one save in the first half, while
Lauren Mercuri made a pair of saves in the second half.
Central Arkansas returns to action on Sunday, travelling to Springfield, Missouri to battle Missouri State. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
