Jonesboro, Arkansas – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears closed out this weekend's A-State Invitational against UT-Martin on Sunday. UCA got career days from freshman
Elizabeth Armstrong and sophomore
Kellen Dunn, sweeping the Skyhawks by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 26-24.
UT-Martin (3-7) grabbed an early 8-5 lead in the first set before a 5-0 UCA run put the Sugar Bears on top 10-8. The teams would trade the next six points to make the set 12-11 in favor of UCA, but from that point on it would be all Central Arkansas, as the Sugar Bears closed out the set on a 13-4 run. UCA (4-6) hit .342 in the set, as Armstrong passed out 16 assists. Dunn hit .375 and collected seven kills, while sophomore
Haley Tippett chipped in with six kills and six digs.
The second set followed a similar pattern, as the Skyhawks took an early 3-2 lead before a 15-4 run saw the Sugar Bears build a 17-7 advantage. After trading points, the teams each picked up a 4-0 streak before a kill from freshman Amanda Beaton locked up the set. Armstrong was dominant again in the second, handing out 15 assists as UCA upped its attack percentage to .379. Dunn tallied a team-high five kills in the set, while junior
Megan Nash poured on four more with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.
The third set was much more competitive, as neither side was able to create more than three points' worth of separation the entire way. Central Arkansas got 15 more assists from Armstrong, as Dunn added five kills, sophomore
Samantha Anderson had four, and freshman
Abbie Harry chipped in with three.
On the day, Armstrong handed out 46 assists, which is tied for third-most in program history in a three-set match. Dunn, who set a career-high with 15 kills last night, bettered that mark against the Skyhawks, hitting .378 while collecting 17 kills. Tippett added nine kills while picking up a team-high 17 digs, while sophomore
Amanda Dimon added 13 digs and freshman
Rayna Jefferis had eight digs. At the net, sophomore
Nicole Peters recorded four blocks, while Dunn tallied three and Anderson chipped in with two.
