WOMEN’S SOCCER TO FACE PAIR OF SUN BELT SQUADS

Conway – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team continues the non-conference portion of its schedule with a pair of matches against Sun Belt Conference opponents on the road this week. The Bears will travel to Jonesboro this afternoon to battle Arkansas State at 4:00 PM, before taking on Louisiana-Monroe at 1:00 PM on Sunday.

The Bears (2-2-0) split a pair of matches at home last weekend falling to Tulsa by a score of 2-1 before rebounding to take down UAPB 3-0 on Sunday. Central Arkansas has scored six goals in four matches so far this year, and has split the load evenly, with senior Chele Naudin, sophomores Camille Bassett, Ashley Smith, and Autum Schwartz, and freshmen Jordan Slim and Anslea Haikey each striking once. Junior Alex Moore leads the team with a pair of assists so far, while Naudin, senior Shelby Wilson, juniors Avery Taylor and Stacia Carroll, and sophomore Kristen Ricks have all chipped in a single assist. In goal, junior Anna Hughes and sophomore Anna Hughes have split time evenly, with each seeing 180 minutes of action. Hughes has made seven saves for the Bears while compiling a save percentage of 0.875, while Mercuri has stopped 16 shots and is making saves at a 0.800 clip.

Arkansas State (1-1-1) is coming off an unbeaten trip through Louisiana last weekend. The Red Wolves defeated Southeastern Louisiana 1-0 thanks to an own goal from the Lady Lions on Friday, before finding a late equalizer to tie Louisiana Tech 1-1 on Sunday. Sophomore keeper Kelsey Ponder has played a key role in ASU's success so far this season, ranking 26th in the nation with an average of seven saves per game and 31st with a save percentage of 0.913. The Red Wolves lead the all-time series by a tally of 6-2-0, though the Bears won last year's meeting in double overtime by a score of 3-2.

ULM (1-2-1) went 0-1-1 on the road last weekend, falling 1-0 at Southern Miss on Friday before playing Southeastern Louisiana to a scoreless tie on Sunday. The Warhawks are averaging 1.00 goals per game this season, and are led by sophomore Cke'Lana Caesar, who has found the back of the goal twice. Sophomore Brooke-Lynn Scroggins serves as ULM's primary keeper, and has allowed three goals in 327 minutes of action. She has a goals against average of 0.73 and a save percentage of 0.897 while making 26 saves. ULM holds a 5-3-1 edge in the all-time series with UCA, though the Bears have won three of the last four meetings. Last season, Central Arkansas took down the Warhawks 1-0 in Conway.
