ZUILHOF, FOREMAN CLOSE UCA CAREERS ON SATURDAY


    CONWAY, Ark. _ A University of Central Arkansas senior and a graduate student will play the final games of their basketball careers on Saturday at the Farris Center.

    Center Jake Zuilhof, from Azle, Texas, and forward Justin Foreman from Bellaire, Texas will lead the Bears in one final game against McNeese State at 4 p.m. at the Farris Center.

    Zuilhof has started for the Bears for two years since graduating from and transferring from Grand Canyon University. The 6-foot-9, 240-pound center has moved to third on the all-time blocked shot list at UCA with 85. He has scored 437 points and pulled down 360 rebounds in his career. 

    Zuilhof, who has started all 56 games since coming to UCA, is currently fourth in the Southland Conference in rebounding (6.7 per game) and sixth in blocked shots (1.3). Zuilhof had career highs of 17 points vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last season and 15 rebounds in the first meeting with McNeese State this season.

    Foreman, a 6-5, 225-pound forward who also transferred from Grand Canyon, has started all 27 games this season and is averaging  10.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He had career highs of 22  points and 11 rebounds, both against Northwestern State, and 5 assists on two ocassions. He has scored in double figures 14 times and has one double-double.

    The Bears beat the Cowboys 88-82 in the first meeting in Lake Charles, La., on Feb. 22. Jordan Howard, Derreck Brooks and Mathieu Kamba combined for 67 points, with Howard getting 24, Brooks 23 and Kamba 20. UCA shot 50.9 percent from the field and made 24 of 29 free throw attempts (82.8 percent).

    The Cowboys (8-19, 6-11) shot just 38.2 percent from the field but made 10 three-pointers, led by James Harvey with three.

    In Thursday's loss to Nicholls State, Howard scored 28 points to become the 22nd player in UCA history to top 1,000 career points. He is currently the No. 2 scorer in the SLC at 20.3 points per game. Howard is also third in the league in three-point percentage (43.3) and free-throw percentage (87.8). He is just one three-pointer short of tying the UCA single-season record of 94 held by Rodney Dean.

    Senior Day activities will be held prior to the game, which will follow the Sugar Bears' game with McNeese State.
