Itta Bena, Miss. – The Central Arkansas Bears took a break from Southland Conference play on Tuesday afternoon, travelling to Itta Bena, Mississippi to take on the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State. The Bears got three home runs as part of a 7-0 rout.

The Bears (19-10) first got on the board in the top of the second inning; when left fielder Hannah Stirton led off with a solo home run. First baseman Audrey Pratt followed with a single before moving to third base on a double from shortstop Kate Myers. Centerfielder Amy Gunnells then lofted a sacrifice fly to center, driving in Pratt and pushing the UCA lead to 2-0. Third baseman Sam Forrest capped the frame off by blasting a two-run shot to make it 4-0 in favor of the Bears.

Second baseman Sarah Bigej got things going for the Bears in the top of the fifth inning, leading off with a single and then stealing second base. After an error saw her move to third and put left Stirton on first, the UCA outfielder got into a rundown, allowing Bigej to score and making the UCA lead 5-0.

Central Arkansas added a pair in the top of the sixth inning, when Lindsay Elliott hit a pinch-hit, two-run bomb, driving in Pratt and making it 7-0 UCA.

Shivaun Landeros (12-6) went the distance for the Bears, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out seven in seven innings of work.

Central Arkansas continues its tour of Mississippi tomorrow evening, heading to Starkville to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM, and the game will be shown on the SEC Network.
