BEARS SUFFER SETBACK AT OLE MISS

Oxford, Miss. – The Central Arkansas Bears took a break from Southland Conference play on Tuesday, travelling to Oxford, Mississippi to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. The Bears were unable to get much going offensively, and the Rebels were able to take advantage of some Central Arkansas miscues to take down the Bears 7-0.

Ole Miss (22-5) scored a run in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth, and a run in the seventh, though just three of those runs were earned.

Central Arkansas (16-9) threatened in the top half of the third, attempting a two-out rally behind a hit-by-pitch from third baseman Sam Forrest and a single from right fielder Briana Whisenhunt, before a caught stealing ended the inning.

Whisenhunt got another threat started for the Bears in the top of the sixth, leading off the inning with a walk, before moving to second on a single from second baseman Sarah Bigej. The Bears were unable to manufacture any runs in the inning though.

The Bears mounted one final threat in the top of the seventh, as pinch hitter Krissy Fontillas reached on an error and Forrest poked a single through the right side, but the pair was stranded.
Shivaun Landeros (9-6) took the loss for the Bears, allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out four in four innings of work. Nicole Fullilove worked the final two frames for the Bears, allowing just one hit.

UCA returns to SLC play this weekend, heading to Nacogdoches, Texas for a three-game set against Stephen F. Austin. The Bears and Ladyjacks will play a single game at 3:00 PM on Friday, before wrapping up with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
