NORMAN, Okla. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears managed just one base hit on Tuesday in a 3-0 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
OU starting pitcher Chris Andritsos allowed a single to UCA shortstop Butch Rea in the third inning and nothing more. The Sooners got solo home runs from Sheldon Neuse in the first inning and Cody Thomas to lead off the seventh inning. They added an unearned run in the seventh on a throwing error.
UCA starter Hunter Neal, a junior from Broken Bow, Okla., went 6 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and striking out seven. Senior Derek Beier came on in the seventh and went the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit, with a walk and a strikeout.
In the seventh, the Sooners made it 2-0 on Thomas' home run, then added their final run on UCA's throwing error on a ground ball to third base. The Bears got a runner on base in the top of the ninth on Ty Tice's walk but he was stranded to end the game.
The Bears (5-4), who saw their five-game winning streak end, head to Cape Girardeau, Mo., this weekend for a three-game series with Southeast Missouri, beginning at 3 p.m. Friday.
