Conway – The Central Arkansas Bears opened the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday night, hosting the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions at Farris Field. The Bears batted around twice in the first two innings, taking down UAPB 10-1.
After UCA (5-1) starter
Shivaun Landeros set UAPB down in order in the top of the first, the Bears took advantage of four walks, three hits, and an error to put up five runs in the bottom half of the frame. In the inning, Central Arkansas got RBI doubles from second baseman
Sarah Bigej, designated player
Bailey Reynolds, and first baseman
Audrey Pratt. Pratt would come in to score on a throwing error to cap the inning's scoring.
Landeros again made quick work of the Lady Lions in the top half of the second, surrendering a leadoff single before retiring the next three batters, and the UCA bats went back to work, tallying another five runs on five walks, three hits, and a pair of wild pitches. Left fielder
Hannah Stirton and centerfielder
Amy Gunnells each worked a bases-loaded walk, while right fielder
Briana Whisenhunt and Bigej both picked up an RBI single in the inning. Bigej would score on a wild pitch to push the UCA lead to 10-0.
UAPB would plate a run in the top of the fifth, but it wouldn't be enough, as the Bears earned their second run-rule victory of the season.
Landeros (3-1) earned the win for Central Arkansas, allowing just one hit and walking one Lady Lion while striking out three in her three innings of work.
Payton Herman worked a perfect inning for the Bears, while
Nicole Fullilove allowed a run on a walk and a hit in the fifth frame.
Offensively, Central Arkansas was led by Bigej's 2-for-2 day and three RBI. Whisenhunt, Reynolds, Pratt, Stirton, and Gunnells each added an RBI for the Bears.
Central Arkansas returns to the road this weekend, heading to the 30
