CONWAY — Central Arkansas topped the century mark for the first time since 2010, putting forth their highest offensive output in 4+ seasons under head coach Sandra Rushing on Friday with a 102-31 victory over Crowley's Ridge in the Farris Center.
The 71-point win was the largest margin of victory for the Sugar Bears (5-1) since defeating Central Baptist 99-21 on Dec. 4, 2012, and is the 22nd time the Sugar Bears have held an opponent to less than 40 points under Rushing.
The game was never in doubt as the Sugar Bears jumped on the Lady Pioneers (2-8) with a quick 8-0 lead to start the game, extended it to 25-9 after the first quarter and then outscored CRC 24-3 in the second quarter to lead 49-12 at the half. After a 28-7 third quarter, the Sugar Bears added another 25 in the final period to finish off the Lady Pioneers.
UCA forced CRC into 37 turnovers, with the Sugar Bears getting 28 steals led by six each from Bhrea Griffin and Taylor Sells and four from Brianna Mullins. The Sugar Bears turned those 37 CRC turnovers into 54 points, while the Lady Pioneers had just two off nine Sugar Bear turnovers.
Six Sugar Bears scored in double figures, led by Taylor Strickland's 20 on 9 of 13 shooting. It is the third 20-point game of the season for Strickland, who has already surpassed her point total from all of last season. Through six games, she is the Sugar Bears' second-leading scorer at 13.2 points per game.
Freshman Maddie Goodner added a season-best 13 points, hitting 3 of 5 from 3-point range, while seniors Raquel Logan and Maggie Proffitt had 12 each. Sells and junior Cera Ledbetter each reached double digits for the first time as well with Ledbetter getting 11 and Sells 10. Mullins had 9, Taylor Baudoin 8, Griffin 6 and Angel Williams 1.
Logan led UCA in rebounds with 9, her third time in four games to post the team's highest total, bringing her season average to 7.5.
The Sugar Bears return to play on Dec. 12 when they host Central Baptist in the Farris Center at 2:00pm.
