SHOOTING STRUGGLES TOO MUCH FOR SUGAR BEARS TO OVERCOME IN 79-45 LOSS AT TEXAS TECH

LUBBOCK, Texas — After averaging 98 points in its previous two games, Central Arkansas never found its way offensively on Wednesday night, shooting just 34 percent en route to a season-low scoring output as the Sugar Bears suffered a 79-45 defeat at Texas Tech in front of 4,712 at the United Supermarkets Arena.

The Sugar Bears (6-2) kept it close in a low-scoring first quarter against the Lady Raiders (6-3), ending the period down just 13-8. But in the second period, the offensive woes set in and the Sugar Bears were unable to keep up – shooting just 21.4 percent in the quarter as Texas Tech went on a 19-3 run and outscored Central Arkansas 22-7 for the period to hold a 35-15 halftime lead.

Though the Sugar Bears improved to 45.8 percent shooting in the second half, they were unable to cut into the Lady Raider lead as Tech shot 62.5 percent in the half, including 7 of 11 (63.6 percent) from 3-point range to continue to pull away – leading by as many as 40 midway through the fourth quarter.

While Tech was 10 of 19 from long distance (52.6 percent), the Sugar Bears did not enjoy the same success with their perimeter shooting – finishing with a season-low 11.8 percentage (2 of 17) on 3-point shots.

The Sugar Bears did outscore the Lady Raiders 22-18 in the paint, and had 14 second-chance points on 11 offensive rebounds to Tech's 12 on 10 offensive boards.

Taylor Baudoin led the Sugar Bears offensively, shooting 7 of 12 from the field and 4 of 4 at the free throw line to finish with a team-high 18 points and a season-high 9 rebounds, narrowly missing her sixth career double-double.

Texas Tech had four players in double figures, led by 22 from Arella Guirantes.

The Sugar Bears will wrap up their non-conference schedule on Monday and Tuesday at UTSA, taking on Liberty and Houston in a pair of neutral-site games before opening Southland play on Dec. 31 against Lamar in the Farris Center.
