Conway – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears returned to the Prince Center on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Abilene Christian Wildcats. The Sugar Bears saw four players tally double-digit kills on the day, as they took down the Wildcats 3-1.
Central Arkansas (11-13, 5-7 SLC) hit just .140 in the first set, but limited Abilene Christian (8-19, 7-5 SLC) to an attack percentage of .080 to take a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-21 win. Sophomore
Kellen Dunn led the way with six kills, as freshman setter
Elizabeth Armstrong began a strong day with 12 assists in the set.
Both sides increased their attack percentage in a marathon second set, with the Sugar Bears jumping up to .275 and the Wildcats increasing all the way to .419 to outlast UCA 31-29 and even the match at 1-1. Dunn added eight kills to her collection, while junior
Megan Nash chipped in with seven and Armstrong added 19 assists.
Central Arkansas would continue improving on the attack in the third set, bumping its hitting percentage up to .357 while cutting ACU's to .179, taking a 2-1 lead with a 25-18 win. Armstrong handed out 16 assists in the set and sophomore
Haley Tippett picked up six kills while Dunn added four more to her count.
UCA would cruise to the victory in the final set, hitting .321 while limiting the Wildcats to a -.071 percentage to pick up a 25-13 win. Dunn tallied five more kills and Nash chalked up four more, while Armstrong gathered 10 more assists.
On the day, Central Arkansas saw four players tally double-digit kills as Armstrong handed out 57 assists, tying for the fifth-most in program history for a four-set match. Dunn led the way, hitting a robust .362 while collecting a career-high 23 kills, and Nash (13), Tippett (12), and sophomore
Samantha Anderson (10) also reached double figures. Defensively, the Sugar Bears collected 63 digs on the day, with sophomore
Amanda Dimon picking up a team-high 15, freshman
Rayna Jefferis adding 14, and Tippett chipping in with 13. At the net, Nash and Anderson tied for the team lead with three blocks each.
Central Arkansas hits the road for its final two road matches next week. The Sugar Bears will head to Hammond, Louisiana on Tuesday night to battle the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions, before moving on to Natchitoches, Louisiana for a matchup with Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon.
